Day 252: Badlands

We spent the afternoon in Badlands National Park, a pretty spectacular place. The kids liked it because it was all wide open to exploration. There were people climbing all over the rock formations, and of course they too had to scale them at every location we stopped. It was different than most other national parks we've been to where everything is very tightly monitored and mapped out, and people are kept on calm, clearly defined trails. This was a bit more wild & less regulated. So much so that even the kids were noticing some of the high and precarious sorts of climbing and hiking going on and wondering how many people actually fell off or got hurt. Maybe they have a little sense after all. (Of course they noticed this after they'd climbed all over some high rocks and across a few cliff trails.)
